[UPDATE] Peekskill Police: Botched Drug Deal May Have Led to Brown Street Robbery
Peekskill police arrested Jose Hammonds Monday after the woman he allegedly robbed at knife point spotted him walking on North Division Street.

Update, 5:45 p.m.: Peekskill police believe a knife point robbery that took place on Brown Street Sunday may have been precipitated by an attempted drug transaction.
"We believe that the victim may have been trying to solicit drugs," said Eric Johansen, chief of the Peekskill police department said Thursday. "I don't want the public to think that this was a random mugging."
Johansen said there are no plans to charge the victim with any crime."

"Regardless of what event precipitated the robbery, he still committed a crime," Johansen said of the arrest.

Peekskill police arrested Jose Hammonds Monday after the woman he allegedly robbed at knifepoint spotted him walking on North Division Street.
Jose Hammonds, 25, of Peekskill is scheduled to appear in city court on April 22 for an armed robbery he allegedly committed on Sunday.
Police said Hammonds confronted a 28-year-old woman at knife point on Brown Street and demanded money. Hammonds fled the scene and the victim was uninjured, according to police.
On Monday, the following day, the victim allegedly saw Hammonds walking on the 100 Block of North Division Street and alerted police.
Hammonds was charged with first-degree robbery, a felony, and sent to Westchester County Jail.
