Peekskill Police: Bus Driver Charged with Harassing Medical Staff Treating Injured Pregnant Woman

Police said Joseph Calhoun, a 57-year-old bus driver from Pennsylvania, became annoyed with emergency medical staff for blocking traffic on Main and Division streets Tuesday. The staff was there to treat a pregnant woman who had been struck by vehicle.

 

Joseph Calhoun, 57, of Easton, Pa., was arrested and charged with misdemeanor counts of obstructing governmental administration and obstructing emergency medical service Tuesday after he allegedly tried to prevent a medical technician from treating a pregnant woman who had been hit by a vehicle.

Sometime before 1 p.m., police along with the Peekskill Fire Department and Ambulance Corps. responded to Main and North Division streets for a pregnant woman who was hit by a vehicle.

Calhoun, who was driving a large commuter bus from allegedly approached the accident scene by driving west in the eastbound lane of Main Street and exited the bus.

Calhoun then allegedly told medical personnel to move the woman so he could drive through.

Police ordered Calhoun back in the bus, but he refused and allegedy grabbed a medical technician by the shirt in an attempt to keep him away from the injured woman.

 

Calhoun was arrested, arraigned and released to reappear in court.

The injured woman was transported to the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla by the Putnam Valley Ambulance Corps. Her medical condition was unavailable Thursday.
