Peekskill Police: Yorktown Man Found Unconscious with Substance Believed to be Heroin

Police said they found Michael Freal, 28, of Yorktown, unconscious inside a running car on Welcher Avenue Saturday. Freal allegedly had a needle filled with a substance police believe was heroin next to him.

Michael Freal, 28, of Yorktown, is scheduled to appear in Peekskill court Monday after city police said they found him passed out inside his car with a needle they believe was filled with heroin Saturday.

At about 11:20 a.m., Officer Michael Lawrence responded to Welcher Avenue for a report of an unconscious man. A number of attempts were made to wake up Freal, but he still remained unconscious.

Police entered the vehicle in an attempt to help Freal and found the needle next to him. They also determined that Freal was under the influence of drugs.

A records check also showed that Freal's license is suspended for an earlier offense of driving while intoxicated. Freal was also wanted on a warrant from Peekskill court for an outstanding marijuana charge.

Freal was charged with felony counts of first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and driving while intoxicated. He also faces misdemeanor charges for possessing a controlled substance and a hypodermic instrument.

He was arraigned an sent to Westchester County Jail with a $1,000 bail.
