The warm weather is here--Friday's high in Peekskill was 94 degrees, according to the National Weather Service--and for wine lovers, that means lots of rosés and whites.
Steven Zwick, the owner at Dylan's Wine Cellar in Peekskill, says those bottles typically offer a "light, crisp and refreshing" taste. Plus, they're typically chilled.
For a summer white, Zwick recommends the 2012 Domaine Lamourette sauvignon blanc. At $14.99 a bottle, it comes from France and features an acidic taste with "citrus notes." This type of wine works well with fish, grilled chicken and salads.
If you're thinking pink, try Bieler Pere et Fils. It was the shop's top seller last year, and this 2012 vintage is dry--not sweet--with cherry and strawberry flavors. For $10.99, it's a nice "entry level" bottle, and it comes from Provence, France, the Mecca of rosés, Zwick said. It goes well with grilled salmon.
For those who are sticking to the reds, the 2010 Vinos Sin Leys Garnacha is perfect to sip on whole enjoying steaks still sizzling from the barbecue. This Spanish wine has just enough spice, Zwick says.
