Police: Man Smashed Window of Cortlandt Gas Station to Steal Cigarettes

State police arrested Roy Guzik, 47, of Peekskill, Monday and charged him with third-degree burglary after he allegedly took a large stone, threw at the window of the Getty station on Route 6 and stole several pack of cigarettes.

A Peekskill man is scheduled to appear in Cortlandt town court on May 20 after he allegedly committed a smash and grab burglary at the the Getty gas station located at 2058 Route 6, shortly after 1 a.m. Monday.

State police arrested Roy Guzik and charged him with third-degree burglary, a felony, after responding to a burglary alarm at about 1:15 a.m. for the the gas station. When troopers arrived, the gas station’s owner advised them that he had checked the store’s security camera from his home and saw man throw large rock through the front glass door.

After breaking the door, the owner said the video footage showed the suspect grabbing cartons of cigarettes from the store’s shelves. The store owner said he went to the store and saw man running toward Peekskill who fit the description of the suspect on the video footage.

Troopers were advised and located Guzik on Conklin Avenue in the Town Of Cortlandt. Guzik was arrested, arraigned and released to reappear in Cortlandt town court.
