Police: Peekskill Man Drove High with Child Passenger; Tried Fleeing Traffic Stop

Ivan Criado-Rodriguez, 23, was arrested and charged with with aggravated driving while ability impaired after he allegedly drove while under the influence of drugs with a child in the car.

MONTROSE, NY —Ivan Criado-Rodriguez, 23, of Peekskill, is scheduled to appear in Cortlandt town court Monday after he allegedly drove while under the influence of drugs in the Town of Cortlandt with a child the car.

Westchester County Police said the arrest took place March 29  after Rodriguez was allegedly observed driving erratically on Route 9A in Montrose, near the Kings Ferry Road intersection.

Officer Steven Stromberg initiated the traffic stop, but Rodriguez allegedly refused to get out of his car and attempted to drive off. Stromberg was able to restrain Rodriguez before he could flee the scene.

Rodriguez was charged with aggravated driving while ability impaired by drugs, a felony under Leandra’s Law, because police said he had a child in the car with him during the traffic stop. He was also charged with misdemeanor counts of second-degree obstructing governmental administration and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Rodriguez was arraigned and released on a $1,000 bail.

The child was turned over to a relative and Child Protective Services was notified.
