Route 6 Roadwork to Last Several Weeks
The Con Edison crews on Route 6 have started a several-week long project to replace gas mains on Route 6.

The construction cones, metal plates and large ditch you have seen along Route 6 over the last two weeks are part of a Con Edison project to replace gas mains before Westchester County paves that stretch of road, according to Peekskill Director of Public Works Howard Wessells.
After two weeks of blasting, digging and working, Con Edison is approximately half-way done with the current stretch of work and it will take them about another two weeks to finish that stretch, Wessells said.
Some parts of the ditch will be patched up but some metal plates will remain in front of houses so Con Ed can connect the houses to the new line once it is installed. Then the crews will move east on Route 6 to do the same thing on that stretch. The work will end at Husted Avenue.

After Route 6 is finished, Con Edison will move onto two other sections of road: from Route 9 to Spring Street and from Bank Street to James Street. Wessells was not sure how Con Edison would be replacing the gas mains in those areas so he was not sure how long those stretches will take, but he said the whole job should be complete by late April.
The county repaving project is supposed to start in June and will pave Route 6 from Route 9 to Conklin Avenue.
