Peekskill: Salsa Night with Conjunto Sazon! at the BeanRunner Cafe

Description:Conjunto Sazon was inspired by the music of Cuba and Puerto Rico. The band, a small conjunto with a huge sound, identifies with the rhythms and melodies of the Caribbean; Salsa, Son, Rumba, Bomba, Plena, as well as Merengue. The veteran musicians of this conjunto, to their credit, have performed and recorded with world renowned artists such as Celia Cruz, Pete "El Conde" Rodriquez, Eddie Palmieri, Monguito "el unico", los Kimbos, and the New Swing Sextet to name a few.

Peekskill: Alberto Simonetti: A Life in Paint

Description: The Field Library in Peekskill is hosting an artist's reception for its show Alberto Simonetti: A Life in Paint Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The show runs from April 6 through April 28. renowned folk painter and sculptor, Simonetti’s work features broad, striking narratives, vital depictions of life in his native Uruguay, and vibrant still lifes. Born in Montevideo in 1939, at the age of 18 he was accepted to Escuela de Bellas Artes de Montevideo where he apprenticed under Octavio Podesta and Berta Burghi. During the 1970’s, he worked in Sao Paulo, Brazil and then moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina where he designed textiles and fabrics.

Peekskill: The Renowned Fred Smith Jazz Ensemble at The BeanRunner

Description: Fred Smith, former musical director for the Harlem Blues & Jazz Band, is the trumpeter of choice for swing bands including Panama Francis Orchestra, George Kelly's Jazz Sultans, and Al Cobb's Big Band. Fred has also played with Dr. Lonnie Smith, Bross Townsend, Lou Donaldson, Houston Person & Etta Jones, Alvin Queen Quintet, Honi Coles & the Copacetics, Hugh Masekela, Larry Willis, Bernard Purdie, Lloyd Price Orchestra, and played in bands backing singers Ruth Brown, Carrie Smith, Della Griffen, Annette St. John, as well as performing in many night clubs during Harlem, Brooklyn, Queens and Greenwich Village Hey Day!

Peekskill: Art Reception for "From Nature" paintings by Larry D'Amico

Description: The Flat Iron Gallery, located at 105 So. Division St., Peekskill, N.Y. will have a new solo art exhibit entitled, “From Nature”…”plein air paintings and studio improvisations” by renown artist, Larry D’Amico. The show will be on display from April 4-April 28, 2013 and will be open Thursdays-Sundays, 12-6 and by appt. An artist reception will be held, Sunday, April 7th, from 1-5 pm. D’Amico is well known for his Hudson paintings and others that depict scenes of America’s rich and diverse landscape. Description: On April 7, the Peekskill Playhouse proudly presents a reading of, Your Bones Don't Have to Roll, a short new drama by Hollywood playwright and screenwriter, Max Eisenberg. In recognition of Holocaust Remembrance Day, once again the Peekskill Playhouse will perform this special presentation at The BeanRunner Café. The play's genesis is from Mr. Eisenberg's own family saga of first generation survivors of the Nazi concentration camps and their second generation American children. The story is told by Ben Tobias, the youngest son of David and Paula, two camp survivors who met and married after the liberation. It was the seminal material for Mr. Eisenberg's 1997 feature motion picture, A Call To Remember, starring Blyth Danner and Joe Mantegna, a Starz Network film production directed by Jack Bender.
Peekskill: Peekskill Area Pastors to Host Holocaust Remembrance Service
Where: First Hebrew Congregation, 1821 E. Main St., Peekskill (opposite Beach Shopping Center)

Description: The community is invited to mark Holocaust Remembrance Day at an Interfaith service at First Hebrew Congregation, 1821 E. Main St., Peekskill (opposite Beach Shopping Center), on Sunday, April 7 at 5 p.m. The service has been created jointly by members of First Hebrew and the Peekskill Area Pastors Association (PAPA). This is the first time that there has been full collaboration on this commemoration.

Bedford: Environmental Film Series: 'Queen of the Sun: What are the Bees Telling Us?'

Description: Part of the library's series of films that focus on the environment, this piece examines the global bee crisis. Sleepy Hollow: Tokyo String Quartet Makes its Last Appearance
Where: Sleepy Hollow High School, 210 N. Broadway

Description: This spring season marks the end of the Tokyo String Quartet's 42-year run, but they will be forever known as one of the world’s leading quartets. For this special concert, their last appearance on the Friends of Music Concert series, they will be performing works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Zoltán Kodály and Johannes Brahms. The group plays on a collection of instruments made by the famous Luthier Stradivari, known as the Paganini Quartet and have been captivating audiences and critics since their founding. Southeast: Cultural Arts Coalition of the Town of Southeast presents 'Spring Illuminated'

Description: This exhibit is set to feature something for everyone, with three artists showing a range of works. Yorktown: Dining for a Cure

Description: 10-percent of all sales will be donated to the Dravet Syndrome Foundation in honor of the owner Gemma Cuomo's grandson Max Meyerson. Max currently has a seizure every two weeks, for which he must be given medicine to make it stop, despite the fact that he takes three different types of anti-seizure medications daily and is on a special diet to help control the seizures.
