White Plains Teen, 15, In Critical Condition After Nearly Drowning In Peekskill Pool [Update]

The Peekskill Police Department provided the following report: 

On Saturday, June 30th at approximately 10:25 p.m., four youths scaled an eight-foot-tall fence securing the pool located at the Depew Park complex located in Peekskill, New York.

The youths included three Peekskill boys, ages 15 and 16, and a 15-year-old White Plains boy. The youths entered the secured area in an effort to utilize the pool which was closed and unmanned.

During their swim, the 15-year-old White Plains youth required medical attention which the other youths attempted to render. The boys flagged down a passerby at which time the Good Samaritan climbed the fence and pulled the White Plains youth from the water.

One of the youths dialed 911 resulting in emergency service response. Officer John Marchioni was the first to arrive on scene and immediately began CPR on the youth. Peekskill Ambulance Corp transported the White Plains youth to Hudson Valley Hospital where he was treated and later transported via helicopter to Westchester Medical Center for further treatment. The White Plains youth remains in critical condition.

The case remains open pending further investigation.

The opening of the pool, which was scheduled at 1 p.m. today, will be delayed pending a Westchester Board of Health inspection, which is routine in this type of incident.

The Westchester Board of Health cleared the Depew Park pool to open at 3 p.m. Sunday, according to the Peekskill Police Department.
