White Sworn in as Peekskill Police Lieutenant

John White was sworn in as a lieutenant in the Peekskill police department during Monday's Common Council meeting. White is filling the role left behind by Eric Johansen, who was announced as the department's new chief in February.

John White was officially sworn in to the position of Peekskill police lieutenant during Monday night’s Common Council meeting.

White, a former member of the U.S. Marine Corps, has 14 years of experience in law enforcement. He started with the New York Police Department before coming to Peekskill.

White, who has been serving as lieutenant since March 19, was promoted from sergeant in order to fill the void left when Eric Johansen was named chief in February. 

As a lieutenant, White will head over the detective division and the community policing unit.

“I expect a lot from Lt. White,” Johansen said Monday. “He has natural leadership ability...his intelligence and that leadership ability has earned him the respect of the men and women of that department.”
