Description:“Once on this Island” is a fantasy that takes place in the Caribbean Islands. It presents a story that shows how love can come in many forms and can overcome our human experience with death. This show offers music, singing and dancing for all, if you are on or off stage. Let your imagination fly as you take a trip with us to this magical island, faraway from your responsibilities of school and work.

Description:Deuces Child, Gigi Tanglewood and Lou Patrick, celebrate the release of their debut CD, Baby Steps. This contemporary duo's down-to-earth style offers up an inspiring and versatile collection of original songs by blending their "Popcoustic" sound with the blues, country and classic rock into a fresh new sound. Singer/songwriter Julie Corbalis will open the evening performing some of her new tunes along with her crowd favorites.

Fred Gillen Jr & Bryce Taylor Performing at the Peekskill Coffee House

Where: The Peekskill Coffee House, 101 S Division St. in Peekskill

Description: Since his first solo concert in 1996, Fred Gillen Jr. has traveled all over the U.S. and Europe singing his songs of hope and struggle at all types of venues, building a devoted following along the way. He feels at home performing at any type and size of venue, from a "house concert" in Indiana to Irving Plaza in New York City, to the main stages of festivals, and everything in between.

Peekskill Parks & City Cleanup

Where: Various parks in Peekskill

When: Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon

Cost: Free

Description: Come pitch in at the Annual Parks Cleanup.  The cleanup begins at 8:00 am on Saturday.  Volunteers are needed to help clean up at various City parks.  To sign up,  complete the attached volunteer form here and submit to Peekskill Recreation, 1 Robin Drive, Peekskill, NY 10566.  Call the Recreation Office at 734-7275 for more information.

Spring Coffee with the Peekskill Schools Superintendent

Where: Peekskill Middle School, 212 Ringgold St. in  Peekskill

When: Saturday at 9 a.m.

Description:On Saturday, April 27, at 9:00 a.m. in the Peekskill Middle School Cafeteria, Peekskill City School District will be holding a Spring Coffee with the Superintendent. Peekskill’s Superintendent, James Willis has chosen the topic for this event to be, “Charter Schools and Why We Should Oppose Them,” and has prepared a presentation on the subject. There will be a question and answer session following the Superintendent’s lecture. Refreshments will be served. For more information residents may contact 914-737-3300 ext. 303 or 342.

Aunt Millie's Tag Sale and Bake Sale

Where: St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1836 E Main St. in Mohegan Lake

Description:Come to St. Mary's for our biggest tag sale of the year! Treasures of all kinds are waiting for you: books, housewares, tools, toys and games, knick knacks of every size. PLUS: delicious homemade treats of all kinds. There's something for everyone!

Art Auction Fundraiser

Where: Temple Israel of Northern Westchester, 31 Glengary Rd. in Croton on Hudson, NY

When: Saturday at 7 p.m.

Description:On April 27th, 2013, Brotherhood of Temple Israel of Northern Westchester will welcome all Temple members, their friends, and the general public to an exciting Art Auction. This will be our largest fund-raiser of the year. Proceeds will enable the temple to continue providing many charitable initiatives within and the community at-large.

Peekskill: EMBARK Celebrates National Poetry Month

When: Saturday,  4 p.m. to 7 p.m

Where:Energy Movement Center, 925 South St. in Peekskill

Description: EMBARK presents “Poetry Peekskill,” a celebration of National Poetry Month curated by Embark Literary members Ian Berger and MaryAnn McCarra-Fitzpatrick on Saturday April 27 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Poetry Peekskill will feature such celebrated local poets as Ron Egatz, Andrew Acciaro,Donna Barkman, and Ibrahim Asad Siddiq. An interactive poetry workshop and open mic will follow.  Suggested donation: $5  per person. Light refreshments will be served. Parental discretion advised.

Lines of Reason at The BeanRunner

Description: Lines of Reason, with Michael Cochrane (piano),Marcus McLaurine (bass), Joe Ford (sax), Alan Nelson (drums), Clifford Adams (trombone). Each of the members of Lines of Reason have had illustrious carreers, performing as band leaders as well as playing with such greats as Sonny Fortune, McCoy Tyner, Hannibal, Marvin Peterson, and Clark Terry. These five friends now come into their own, with this exciting and creative collaboration, where each player has equal input. 

Spring Fling at Dusty Stables

Hen Hud Lions Clam Bake

Where: Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Banquet Hall, 155 Highland Ave. in Verplanck

When: Sunday at 2 p.m.

Cost: $45

Description: Join the Hen Hud Lions for a Spring Clam Bake and adult kickball tournament on Sunday, starting at 1:30 p.m. inside the Mt. Carmel Hall/Field in Verplanck, rain or shine. For just  a $45 donation  per person, enjoy all you can eatclams, steak, shrimp, clam chowder, dessert, soda, beer wine and coffee. 

Peekskill Neighborhood Sidewalk Cleanup

Where: Your Neighborhood, Peekskill, NY

When: Sunday, starts at 11 a.m.

Cost: Free

Description:Sunday at 11 am meet your neighbors in front of your house, apartment, or business with gloves & tools. If that's a bad time for you, talk to a neighbor who can meet you at a different time. Bring the kids if they're old enough to sweep sidewalks or hold a bag, & put them to work. This will be the start of a weekly tradition.

 

First Responders Dinner

Where: Peekskill Elks Lodge, 1038 Brown St. in Peekskill

When: Sunday, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Cost: Free

Description:The Peeskill Elks will be hold a dinner for the "First Responders" of Peekskill. This includes the Peekskill Police, Fire and Ems of Peekskill. One member from each of the departments will be given an award for outstanding member of the year. The dinner will be held at the Elks Lodge at 1038 Brown Street.

Bedford: Six Ladders Opens at KMA

Description: Bright swaths of vibrant colors transform the Katonah Museum of Art’s exterior beginning this Sunday, April 21st with the opening of its newest outdoor exhibition, Six Ladders by artist Andrea Lilienthal.  Lilienthal created a series of giant bamboo ladders for the Museum’s stately Sculpture Garden that are whimsical and enigmatic; their brilliant colors electrifying the natural surroundings.

Mt. Kisco: Hot Cars for a Cooler Tomorrow

Briarcliff Manor: Rummage Sale

Where: Briarcliff Congregational Church

When: Saturday, April 27 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cost: Free to browse

Description: The Briarcliff Congregational Church's annual rummage sale draws crowds from around the region each year. Items for sale include clothing, books, houseware, toys, appliances, furniture, sporting goods and more. There will be lunch and a bake sale. 

 

Irvington: RiverArts Studio Tour 

Where: First stop on the Rivertowns tour map is the Sanford White Building at Studio M360, 50 S. Buckhout Street, Irvington. For the complete tour map click here.

When: Saturday and Sunday, April 27 and 28, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cost: Free

Description: The RiverArts Studio Tour features the diverse work of over 80 artists in studios and pop-up installations throughout the Rivertowns -- among them: the woodblock prints that comprise the tugboat mural on Tarrytown's C-Town. Katonah: Poetry Outside and Out Loud!

Where: Katonah Village Library

Description: Bring the family to KVL on Saturday afternoon to hear poetry on the KVL library plaza. Children, teens and adults are welcome to read a favorite poem or recite one of your own.  Don’t have one? A selection of poetry books will be available for you to peruse. We will supply the microphone, you supply the voice!

Somers: Lions Club Carnival

Where: Somers Firemen's Field on Route 202.

When: April 24 to April 28

Description: The rides open Wednesday through Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 1 p.m. Parking and admission is free.

Tarrytown: Rotary Duck Derby and YMCA Healthy Kids Day

Where: Patriots Park, 121 N Broadway, Tarrytown

When: Saturday, April 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cost: Free, $10 for unlimited kids' rides

Description: Rotary Rubber Duck Derby races 2,000 rubber ducks at Patriots Park with the assistance of Hope Hose and Conquerer Fire Dept. The ducks race in 5 heats. Winners of each heat race in final race for the $1,500 Grand Prize. Meantime, enjoy Healthy Kids Day at the Park with the YMCA. Rides for kids, games, food, music, and so much more. Yorktown: Miles for Medals' Walk for Special Olympics

Where: Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park in Yorktown

When: Sunday, April 28, registration at 9 a.m., walk begins at 10 a.m.

Cost: Suggested donation of $25

Description: The Vincent Miritello Miles for Medals Walk is a 2-mile walk with beautiful scenery that will benefit the Hudson Valley Special Olympics. All money raised at the Miles for Medals Walk will benefit local programs.

Yorktown: 3rd Annual HealthYorktown 5K Walk and Run

Where: FDR State Park, Route 202 Yorktown

When: Saturday, April 27

Cost: $30 for runners, $15 for walkers

Description: The third annual "HealthYorktown" 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run will bring health awareness to the community and raise money for the local school districts. The event will be benefitting Yorktown's Foundation for Excellence in Yorktown Education and the Lakeland Education Foundation.
