Cops: Burglary Solved Through DNA Sample

A Hicksville teenager has been accused of a March 11 burglary in Hicksville, Nassau County Police said.

The burglary took place in a home on Princess Street in Hicksville and Nassau crime scene detectives conducted a forensic search of the home. During the probe, a sample of blood was recovered from the basement floor.

Last week, a positive DNA match was made linking Kevin Ortez, 16, of 2 Pen Lane, Hicksville, to the burglary. Plain-clothes officers from the Second Precinct located Ortez at his home Monday and placed him under arrest without incident.

During his arrest the defendant was found to be possession of Marijuana.

Ortez is charged with burglary and possession of marijuana. He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.
