A man riding his bicycle was able to flee from a knife-wielding bandit in Hicksville Thursday afternoon, Nassau County Police said.
The 18-year-old victim raced home and contacted police. A short time later, detectives arrested Christian Menendez, 20, of Dartmouth Drive, Hicksville, and charged him with attempted robbery.
Police said Menendez approached the cyclist with the knife about 3:30 p.m. Thursday on Cedar Street at Woodbury Road and demanded he empty his pockets. The two men knew each other; no injuries were reported, police said.
Menendez is being charged with a felony count of attempted robbery and will be arraigned on Friday in First District Court, Hempstead.
