Nassau Woman Scammed Out Of $30,000: Police

Police say she was duped by someone claiming to be from her bank.

PLAINVIEW, NY — A Plainview woman was the victim of a scam that cost her nearly $30,000, Nassau County police said.

The 43-year-old woman received a phone call at 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 23 from a person claiming to be a representative of the Chase Bank Fraud Department. The woman was told there was fraudulent activity on her account, and that she had to wire $29,800 from her account into a Bank of America account to rectify it.

The woman wired the money, but then realized she was the victim of fraud and called police.

Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to call the Second Squad at 516-573-6254, or call the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244 -TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
