Plainview-Old Bethpage Students Enter World of Astronomy

H.B. Mattlin Middle School students experience Starlab.

Plainview-Old Bethpage District’s H.B. Mattlin Middle School students recently participated in their annual Nassau BOCES Starlab experience.

Sixth grade students entered the “Starlab” to learn from Nassau BOCES naturalists about different facets of astronomy in conjunction with their astronomy and Greek mythology units in class. The Starlab is inflated and transformed into a 16-foot dome, set up inside the school for two days where students were allowed to explore as they furthered their knowledge.

Inside, students are able to see moving images of different night sky objects such as the Milky Way galaxy and different planets revolving around the sun.
