Town Invites Public to Discuss Hicksville Brownfield Development

Oyster Bay Notebook: Area in question has been the subject of a long-standing debate.

The Town of Oyster Bay is inviting the public to an open house to discuss the future of a brownfield located in northwest Hicksville.

The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 5, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church at 40, Nicholai St., Hicksville. Those interested in the future of the site can offer input on a draft study being taken of the area. 

The public "will have the opportunity to review and provide feedback on the vision, goals and objectives from the draft nomination study,” said Councilwoman Rebecca Alesia.

The Northwest Hicksville Study Area is bounded by the Northern State Parkway to the north, Old Country Road to the south, Cantiague Lane to the west, and 106/107 to the east.

Residents can sign up for co-ed volleyball, badminton.

Town residents are invited to sign up for the town's adult Co-Ed Badminton or Adult Co-Ed Volleyball Programs. The leagues are open to town residents 18 and older and will be held at the Hicksville Athletic Center.

The badminton program starts on Sunday, Jan. 5 and will be held on Thursdays and Sundays from 8:30-10:30 p.m. The volleyball program starts on Tuesday, Jan. 7 and will be conducted on Tuesdays from 9-10:30 pm and Saturdays from 8:30-10:30 pm.

The programs, which last 12 weeks, are $60 for residents and $70 for non-residents. Proof of residency is required. For further information and registration information, contact the Hicksville Athletic Center at (516) 733-8406.

"Holiday on Ice" Set for Dec. 21.

The town's "Holiday on Ice" show, now its fourth year, will be presented at the town's ice skating center in Bethpage on the Dec. 21. 

The event is free and open to the public. It begins at 7 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring two non-perishable food items which will be collected by Island Harvest, an organization committed to ending hunger on Long Island.
