PLEASANTVILLE, BRIARCLIFF MANOR, NY — If you’re like many of your Pleasantville/Briarcliff Manor neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Here are 14 local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

  • Briarcliff Manor Education Foundation: "grants extend educational opportunities beyond what the district’s operating budget can provide. The BMEF has funded over 150 grants valued at more than $1.3mm since 1995."
  • Friends of the Briarcliff Manor Public Library: "The Briarcliff Public Library is a municipal library, and its budget is allocated by The Village. As you can guess, this budget covers most essentials, but not everything. This is where The Friends step in—WE raise the money for all the 'extras.'"
  • Friends of the Mount Pleasant Public Library: "provides funding for various projects that help to improve the Library's ability to provide service to our community. Simply put, we raise money to ensure a first-class enriching library experience for all Mount Pleasant Public Library patrons."
  • Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson (Pleasantville): "Girl Scouts create the world they want to live in and strive to make it better every single day. They explore their strengths, take on new challenges, and can always be themselves, regardless of background or ability. Supported by adult volunteers and mentors right here in our community, as well as millions of alums around the globe, Girl Scouts lead the way as they discover who they are and how they can make the future a brighter place."
  • Gullotta House (Briarcliff Manor): "purpose of aiding residents of Westchester County who face financial or other hardships by providing food vouchers, scholarships to aid with the payment for education, outings and community entertainment events, holiday assistance and by aiding community organizations and programs by providing additional assistance to their clients and participants."
  • Hope's Door (Hawthorne): "seeks to end domestic violence and to empower victimsto achieve safety, independence, and healing from the trauma of abuse."
  • Mount Pleasant Education Foundation: "raises funds to enhance our students' learning experiences through grant-funded programs and items. The Foundation has awarded over $500,000 in grants to the District since its inception in 1996."
  • Pleasantville Cottage Campus: "Pleasantville Cottage School is home to emotionally troubled boys and girls, ages 7-16 (at admission), with educational, behavioral, and emotional challenges. Our philosophy is that the child is part of a family that must be engaged and helped so that the child can safely return home permanently. We believe that most of the children in our care have strengths we can build on to resolve the problems that made it necessary for them to come into care.
  • Pleasantville Fund for Learning: "to encourage innovation, extend educational opportunities, and enhance educational programs in our school district."
