A Chappaqua-based group committed to fighting breast cancer is holding its 16th annual fundraiser on Thursday.
A Cure in Our Lifetime, which funds cancer research and provides resources for women with breast cancer, will hold the event at Trump National Golf Club in Briarcliff Manor starting at 9:30 a.m.
Laura Friedman, a Chappaqua resident and member of the group's committee, said about 250 people are expected to attend. She also noted that the group is getting a lot of new people. People from Chappaqua and surrounding committees, including Mount Kisco, Pleasantville, Katonah, Armonk and Cross River, have been among the supporters.
Friedman, a cancer survivor of 14 years, said that people “are just incredibly supportive” for trying to find a cure. She noted that the event has gotten bigger.
A Cure in Our Lifetime was founded after the 1996 death of Dana Teichman, a local resident. She left behind a husband and two daughters and her family has supported the group. Over the years, the group has raised more than $2 million.
The event's featured speaker will be Dr. Adina Keller, an OB/GYN at the Mount Kisco Medical Group. Her focus has been on cancer prevention and women's health, the group announced for its overview of the fundraiser.
The day will also include a raffle and a silent auction. Friedman said that prizes will range from a Father's Day package – items in it will include outings at local golf clubs – to beauty items and certificates for local restaurants.
