Advisory Lifted: Contact with Hudson Safe

The Hudson River is safe for human contact, according to the Westchester County Department Health who lifted an advisory issued during Hurricane Sandy that cautioned against having contact with the river.

The advisory was implemented on October 29 as a precaution when the Yonkers Joint Wastewater Treatment Plant was shut down to protect equipment and the safety of employees. The storm caused flooding and other severe damage to the plant, however secondary water treatment resumed on November 22.

Though the plant is functioning and test results show that sewage limits are being met, repairs to the plant are expected to cost $12.65 million, a county press release reports.
