Be a Hero: Shop the Summer Harvest This Saturday!
Pleasantville Farmers Market is open Saturday, 8:30am - 1:00pm.

Summer heat can test everyone, and especially our farmers, whether they're helping herds to stay hydrated, keeping up with harvests super-charged by the weather, or accomplishing tasks like haying hundreds of acres between storms. Unpredictable Saturday forecasts can affect attendance and the market day revenue farmers depend on. In Pleasantville we know our producers personally, so many of you may already be aware July has asked a lot of these dedicated vendors.
This Saturday a beautiful 74° start is predicted. So we have a perfect day to CELEBRATE the dedication of our farmers and the bountiful summer harvest they created.
Please do your menu planning now, try to include the highest % of regionally grown items you can, and arrive Saturday to shop from an incredible, diverse harvest of fruits, veggies, and dairy items. Show our producers that the community supports their hot weather efforts to bring healthy foods to the Village. You redeem their efforts with each purchase, and doing good never tasted so good!

With fruits in season now, note the following tip for a fruit and vegetable wash from author Suzy Scherr's book The Apple Cider Vinegar Companion: "Fill a clean sink halfway with lukewarm water and add 1 cup of apple cider vinegar. Add your fruit and/or vegetables and soak items for about 10 minutes (less time for fragile berries - 2-5 minutes is fine)". Brought to you by Northern Westchester and Phelps, your local Northwell hospitals.

VENDOR HIGHLIGHTS
Mimomex Farm is arriving all July with greens used in Mexican cooking including papalo, purslane, and epazote. They also have bags of fresh squash blossoms. Shoppers noted these are great fried with a bit of Trotta's mozzarella inside. Trotta's team says they enjoy using Edgwick's ri-goat-ta as a filling. Mimomex's growers suggest the traditional addition of some chopped epazote with the cheese, then to place all inside a corn tortilla before frying. This week gather some blossoms, fill with your choice of cheese and herbs (we used Little Seed's tarragon), then lightly batter in a mix of flour and water (or mozz brine),
then fry up to a delicious crisp, and enjoy! Other ideas: use Buddhapesto as a dipping sauce for your fried blossoms, or or click here to learn how to create a classic pasta with zucchini blossoms. The Market is where we learn and share, heading home to try out new ideas.
Cold wine and tasty cheese! Whitecliff Vineyards will bring a lineup of hot weather wine -- white, rosé, and a couple of chillable reds -- perfect for the selection of artisanal cheeses at the Market.
Our spice specialist Linzi of Spice Revolution is highlighting a return of the beloved summer spice mix Habanero & Honey! With the perfect combo of spicy and sweet, this spice mix is excellent on new potatoes, mushrooms, squash, onions, pork, chicken, beef, and fish. This weekend Linzi will also have buttermilk panna cotta, made with Bobolink dairy buttermilk and Gajeski's super sweet blueberries.
Edgwick Farm has two new summer seasonal pairings with its soft goat cheese: Red Raspberry (sweet) and Basil Pesto (savory). Try a taste at their market table this week.
Strudel House in in weekly with savory and sweet strudels. Stop by to see what they have baked from a menu of seasonal fruits and veggies.
Kyle of Maple View Farm says this is the week to enjoy all the summer favorites, including cucumbers, summer squash, eggplant, cherry tomatoes, and heirloom tomatoes. The farm also has baby carrots, head lettuces, and washed salad greens.
Red Barn Bakery will have Organic pies, blueberry or apple. They are also highlighting hand pies made with strawberry and cherries. Seeking savory treats? They also have hand pies made with rainbow chard, Shitaki, and leeks!
Little Seed Gardens is reaching peak tomato! Stop by to gather yours, along with some perfect baby squash, crisp greens, and excellent new potatoes.
Spirits Lab makes their visit for July this Saturday with their exciting line of distilled items and premixed cocktails.

Hilly Acres Farm will arrive with a full line of pork, beef, chicken and fresh brown eggs ($6/dozen). They will offer a discount on sirloin tip steaks and fresh andouille sausage this week.
