Black Bear Tranquilized, Relocated After Saw Mill Parkway Mischief

While the bear was not aggressive, it was getting a little too adventurous for the comfort of many Westchester County residents.

PLEASANTVILLE, NY — There was a noticeable police presence in Pleasantville today as authorities tracked the movements of a furry visitor looking for a free meal.

The Pleasantville Police Department worked with Westchester County and New York State officials to track a bear that was spotted near the Saw Mill Parkway, and later around Cooley Street and Hobby Street.

While the bear was not aggressive, it was getting a little too adventurous for the comfort of many Westchester County residents. This evening, the bear was politely moved along by authorities.

"The bear that was spotted in various parts of the Village of Pleasantville today has been safely tranquilized, secured, and is being relocated to a more suitable habitat," the Village of Pleasantville said in a statement released on Sunday evening. "We extend our thanks to the Westchester County Police Department, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the Mt. Pleasant Police Department and the Pleasantville Police Department for their coordinated efforts in tracking the bear and ensuring its safe relocation."
