Briarcliff Caucus Gears Up for 2013 Village Elections

With four village positions up for grabs in the March 19 election, the People's Caucus of Briarcliff Manor, "a non partisan civic organization which encourages candidates to seek local elected office," has begun announcing interested candidates.

According to a press release from Aaron B. Stern, Caucus chair, current Deputy Mayor David E. Venditti will not be running for re-election this year. He has served on the board for 10 years.

Trustee Lori A. Sullivan, a four-year member of the board, will be seeking re-election in March.

Also seeking a place on the board in 2013 is Law Road resident Mark L. Wilson.

According to Stern, Mayor William Vescio has not yet announced his intention for this year's election.

Fred D. Weinstein, Esq., the village justice for the past 17 years, has also decided to step down, Stern wrote.

"We thank Fred for his years of dedicated service to the Village and wish him the best of luck in all his future endeavors," the Caucus statement read.

North State Road resident Laurie I. Sullivan, currently the village's acting village justice, will seek the Village Justice position through the Caucus. Howard T. Code of Hungerford Road has also announced his intent to seek the Caucus nomination for Village Justice.

Coming up on Wednesday, Jan. 9, the People's Caucus will hold its annual nominations meeting at Briarcliff Middle School at 8 p.m.

All candidates running on the Caucus line in March will take part in a public Q&A/debate on Wednesday, Jan. 16, also set to take place at the middle school at 8 p.m.

These two meetings will be videotaped and shown on public access channels.
