Briarcliff Community Day; Dance Open House
Looking for something to do this weekend? Here's what's happening around Pleasantville-Briarcliff Manor.

As summer winds down, a crop of local events are on tap this weekend. Check out some of the local happenings in the Pleasantville and Briarcliff Manor area this weekend:
Briarcliff Manor Community Day
Where/When: Law Memorial Park on Saturday, Sept. 7, starting at 12 p.m.Why go: Community Day begins with open pool access from 12 to 6 p.m. on Saturday (no permit required), with the 'Big Splash' contest at 3:30 p.m. From 4 to 7 p.m., Law Park will open up with family activities (think egg tosses and face painting), while special attractions including the rock climbing wall, water slide, zipline and more will be available. The Rotary Club will be selling food and refreshments all day. New this year is a remote control race car activity from 2 to 7 p.m. The day will wind down with the annual fireworks show from 8:30 to 9 p.m., and the family dancing extravaganza at the pavilion until 10 p.m.

Briarcliff Manor Library Book Sale
Where/When: Briarcliff Manor Public Library on Friday, Sept. 6 from 12 to 8 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 7 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 8 from 12 to 4 p.m.Why go: Building on the success of last year's first annual sale, the Friends of the Briarcliff Manor Public Library are again bringing a used book sale to run in conjunction with Community Day. Book prices will vary.

Academy of Dance Arts Open House
Where/When: Academy of Dance Arts on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.Why go: This Pleasantville dance studio is kicking off its 14th season this weekend. There will be free demo classes, discounts, food, giveaways and more at the open house.

Sleepy Hollow Street Fair
Where/When: Beekman Avenue in Sleepy Hollow on Saturday, Sept. 7, beginning at 10 a.m.Why go: The 17th annual street fair in Sleepy Hollow will feature a number of local food vendors, ribs being grilled up by the Fire Department, a kids carnival, kids science fair and live entertainment.

The Take Me to the River Music & Arts Festival
Where/When: Draper Park in Hastings on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 12 to 7 p.m.Why go: Live performances, art installations and kid-friendly activities are on tap Saturday for the seventh annual arts and music festival in Hastings. Pricing: $18 in advance; $25 at-the-gate; $5 youths ages 10 to 17; $10 for seniors and student with ID
6th Toughman Half Iron
Where/When: Croton Point Park on Sunday, Sept. 8, opening ceremonies begin at 6:30 a.m.*
Why go: Spectators are welcome to cheer on the racers at Croton Point Park, where admission is free, and along the adult course through the Historic Hudson River Towns. For more information on the triathlons, including a guide spectators, go to http://toughmantri.com. And drivers: note the road closure alert for race on Route 9 and 9A here.
