Briarcliff High School Announces Opening of Art Salon 2016
Students artwork will be displayed in the school's 2016 Art Salon at the Sleepy Hollow Country Club on Thursday, April 14.

Briarcliff High School’s Department of Visual Arts is pleased to announce the opening of its Art Salon 2016, a stunning exhibition of painting, drawing, ceramics, photography and film by the school's talented students.
Once again, through the generosity of the Sleepy Hollow Country Club, the exhibition will be held at their historic location at 777 Albany Post Rd. in Briarcliff Manor.

The work of these students highlights the success of the Briarcliff art program, which emphasizes classical technique within a contemporary framework. On view will be paintings and drawings encompassing still life, portraiture and landscape, including the works of regional Silver Key award winners and senior portfolios.
Teachers John Brooks and Jessica Dubin instruct traditional dark room techniques and a selection of photographs will be on view. This year, students will also exhibit computer artwork made under the guidance of digital instructor John Brooks. The students of Jean Linville are presenting an array of imaginative ceramics, both sculptural and
functional. Film shorts, created by Briarcliff future filmmakers, under the guidance of Jamie Mandel, will round off the evening.

The guest speaker at the Art Salon 2016 this year is Reuben Sinha. Sinha is a painter, currently working in encaustics. After receiving a BFA from NYU, Sinha studied at the Art Students League of New York and Columbia University. His awards include the MacDowell Traveling Scholarship and Fulbright Fellowship, both travel grants were used to return to his native India to study and paint. Sinha currently lives and works in New York City. He was the founder and executive director of artHARLEM, a not-for-profit community arts organization, that produced The Harlem Open Artist Studio Tour, an intimate look at contemporary art and artists’ studio’s in historic Harlem. Currently, he teaches art at The Heritage School, a public high school in East Harlem.
This exhibition is curated by Briarcliff’s visual arts department coordinator Roxanne Ritacco, instructor of painting and drawing.
The exhibition will be held Thursday, April 14 from 6-8 p.m. in an evening of entertainment and refreshments at the Art Salon as the school celebrates the achievements and commitment of the young artists of Briarcliff High School.
