Briarcliff’s Todd Elementary Named National Blue Ribbon School

Briarcliff Manor’s Todd Elementary School has earned the distinction of being named a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Secretary of Education John B. King Jr. announced on Sept. 28.

“It is an honor to receive the prestigious National Blue Ribbon award. This award is a recognition of six years of collaboration and dedication by the Todd faculty and staff to our school goals of literacy, numeracy and empathy as well as Habits of Mind,” said Principal Nadine McDermott. “Cultivating a learning organization that sustains a high level of academic success and personal growth for all students has been my highest priority as principal of Todd School. It is extremely gratifying for me to have the achievement and educational progress of the Todd School community recognized on a national level.”

The award recognizes Todd as one of the top schools in the nation – just 279 public and 50 private schools received the honor this year. Todd is one of the Exemplary High Performing Schools receiving the honor.
Principal McDermott, along with fourth-grade teacher Lorraine McDermott, will represent Todd Elementary School at a two-day awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., to celebrate the hard-won achievement.
“It is wonderfully gratifying to receive recognition for the extraordinary effort and success our teachers and staff bring to the student experience here at Todd,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. James Kaishian.

District Superintendent Kaishian congratulated students and staff on receiving the distinction from the U.S. Department of Education.
