Pleasantville Resident Out More Than Face Value In Check Scam
Police detectives are investigating.
PLEASANTVILLE, NY — Pleasantville police are investigating a scam that victimized a local resident.
The man visited police headquarters in early July to report the crime, police said. He reported that after he agreed to complete a painting job, the prospective client gave him a check that was for more than the agreed-upon amount.
The client then asked the painter to cash the check, keep the correct amount and send back the excess using a payment app.
