High-Speed Parkway Chase Ends In Wrong-Way Crash

The driver ignored pleas from two passengers who asked to be let out, police said.

MOUNT PLEASANT, NY — What started for New York State police as a traffic stop on the Taconic Parkway in Yorktown ended as a wrong-way crash with injuries Saturday.

Shanime C. Williams of New Rochelle now faces charges of reckless endangerment in the 1st degree, a class D felony, unlawful imprisonment in the 1st degree, a class E felony, and unlawful fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, a class A misdemeanor.

Troopers on the southbound Taconic State Parkway near Franklin Delano Roosevelt State Parkattempted to stop a 2021 Dodge Charger for violations of the vehicle and traffic law.

The driver fled instead, accelerating to speeds over 100 miles per hour.

Apparently what he did next was make an almost 360-degree turn, heading up the entrance ramp from Route 9A to the southbound side of the Taconic. The wrong way.

He hit two southbound vehicles. Fortunately, only minor injuries were reported, police said.

When Williams was arrested, police found two women in the car who said they had pleaded to be let out, to no avail.

He was arraigned before the town of Mount Pleasant Court and released on his own recognizance to reappear before the court on Sept. 30.
