Inspiring Words Set Briarcliff Manor School Year in Motion
Briarcliff Manor Union Free School District faculty and staff geared up for the year at the Superintendent's Conference Day.
BRIARCLIFF MANOR, NY - Briarcliff Manor Union Free School District faculty and staff were abuzz with excitement as they gathered for the beginning of the 2016-17 school year during Superintendent’s Conference Day on September 1.
“I am really, really excited to be here and I’m really, really excited for the upcoming school year,” said Superintendent of School Dr. James Kaishian in his opening remarks, who also introduced new faculty and staff members. “We’ve got a lot of wonderful things happening.”

“Thank you for what you do,” said Board of Education Vice President Jan Fisher. “We are humbled by it and we support you.”
Fisher also introduced the day’s keynote speaker, Michael Orth, deputy commissioner of the Westchester County Department of Community Mental Health. Orth commended the district’s efforts to address the mental health needs of its student population, which included training over the next two days.

Todd music teacher Wilma Messenger, the 2016-17 teacher of the year, also addressed her colleagues and delighted the audience by performing an original song about teaching in Briarcliff.
Kaishian also took time to recognize two people who have served the district for 25 years: fifth-grade teacher Joanne Buccini and high school Principal Debora French.
