Jacob Burns to Screen Domestic Violence Documentary

One out of every four women and children will experience domestic violence in their lifetime, according to the White Plains-based organization My Sister's Place.

An awareness of the frequency of domestic violence and human trafficking will be the focus of a documentary screening at Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville Monday.

I Believe You: Faiths' Response to Intimate Partner Violence, an interfaith documentary that highlights survivors of abuse across the country, "explores faiths’ response to intimate partner violence, provides insight into survivor experiences and explores a call to action for religious institutions," according to a press release from My Sister's Place.

The documentary's filmmaker, Dr. Debra Gonsher Vinik, as well as "representatives from our faith communities" and a survivor from the film will be present at the screening for a Q&A with audience members.

The screening is being offered free of charge.

My Sister's Place offers services to victims of domestic violence and spreads awareness to help prevent future violence in Westchester County.

The screening will take place at Jacob Burns Film Center (364 Manville Rd. Pleasantville) on Monday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. RSVP by emailing cgreenberg@mspny.org.
