Manville Road Corridor Project Begins Monday In Pleasantville
Postponed by the pandemic, its goal is to create a safer, enjoyable pedestrian experience in the center of the village.

PLEASANTVILLE, NY — Work on the Manville Road Corridor Improvement Project, long in the planning and postponed by the pandemic, is scheduled to begin Monday.
The goal is to create a safe and enjoyable pedestrian experience between Memorial Plaza and Tompkins Avenue and improve pedestrian circulation in downtown Pleasantville while ensuring traffic flow is not severely affected.
"It's important to note that the Manville Road Corridor has an accident rate four times that of the New York State average," village officials said on the project webpage.

The project has been awarded a federal grant of approximately $1.5 million, to be administered by the New York State Department of Transportation since Manville Rd is owned by the state.
The initial phase of the corridor project focuses on fire hydrant replacements, curb/sidewalk replacements and drainage work on the south side of Manville Road between Tompkins and Wheeler avenues. Street parking in the area will be restricted during the work.

Once it is completed, the contractor will shift to the north side of Manville Road between Tompkins Avenue and Washington Avenue. This is estimated to take place in October.
Pedestrian passage and access to storefronts will be maintained.
A significant piece of the project is removal of the Memorial Plaza "slip lane."
A civic space/pocket park will be put in its place and the Memorial Plaza parking lot will be adjusted. (That is separate from the Manville Road Corridor Improvement project, and awaits its completion.)
The village had planned to start the corridor project in the spring of 2020 and the civic space project in 2021.
Now, due to long lead-times with traffic signal equipment, work at the Manville/Memorial/Grant Street intersection is scheduled for early 2023. This includes the construction of the right-hand turn lane at Memorial Plaza and the removal of the slip lane.
