Manville Road Improvement Project Starts Back Up Monday
The goal is to improve conditions for pedestrians downtown.
PLEASANTVILLE, NY — The Manville Road Corridor Improvement Project is set to restart on Monday, Pleasantville officials said. Work stopped in December due to state regulations regarding road work in winter conditions.
Outstanding work to be completed by summer:
- Curb and sidewalk replacement on the north side of Manville Road from the area of Tompkins Avenue to the Manville Road parking lot.
- New traffic signal at Manville Road/Memorial Plaza/Grant Street intersection, and construction of new right-hand turn lane.
- Curb and sidewalk replacement on the south side of Manville Road from Wheeler Avenue to Memorial Plaza to include the closing of the slip lane.
- Bump-outs constructed at intersections to align with completed work
- Installation of new pedestrian crossing signals.
- Fire hydrant replacement/relocation.
- Mountable center islands installed between Tompkins Avenue and Washington Avenue, and an area between Vanderbilt Avenue and Grant Street.
- The village is working with NYSDOT on a mast arm signal to replace the ‘double signal’ at Wheeler Avenue. and Manville Road. This will serve to keep a protected pedestrian crosswalk at Wheeler Avenue.
- Repaving and re-striping of Manville Road from Tompkins Avenue to Grant Street.
Monday, work will start in front of Dunkin Donuts and proceed on the north side of Manville Road, they said.

The goals of the project are to create a safe and more enjoyable pedestrian experience between Memorial Plaza and Tompkins Avenue and improve pedestrian circulation downtown — all the while ensuring traffic flow through the busy village center is not severely affected.
"It's important to note that the Manville Road Corridor has an accident rate four times that of the New York State average," village officials said on the project webpage.
