Minimal Storm Impact in Briarcliff [Updated]

Still recovering in some ways from the impact of Sandy a few months ago, the Village of Briarcliff Manor came out of last night's high wind and heavy rain storm relatively unscathed.

According to the Police Department, a call came in at approximately 7 a.m. reporting a telephone pole with wires down at the Scarborough Metro North Station.

No major damage or injuries were reported, police said. The department notified Con Edison of the incident and as of 12:30 p.m., were waiting for a response to the station.

"While no outward property or vehicle damage occurred, power to the parking lot area and adjacent street lights were knocked out," Village Manager Philip Zegarelli wrote in an update Thursday afternoon. "The valet parking attendants, Police, and DPW all have assisted in maneuvering cars around the area to keep the traffic flowing. We anticipate that the main area of congestion will be cleared by the homebound commute."

Another wire was reported down and burning on Long Hill Road West this morning, police said.

"Power was also knocked out at our King’s College high elevation water tank and it is now on manual refill until the circuitry can be restored," Zegarelli reported.

Con Edison did not report any power outages in the village this morning and as of 12:30 p.m., the company reported no more outstanding outages in Westchester County.

Zegarelli said a permanent restoration of the Scarborough station damages won't take place until Sunday—"The parking lot areas will be dark," he warned.

"Please be careful leaving the station platform."
