NAACP Ossining Meets With Legislator Ulaj
Westchester Legislator Discusses Housing, Transportation and Children's Programs
On November 20, the NAACP Ossining Branch, meeting on Zoom, welcomed Westchester Legislator Emiljana Ulaj for a discussion of County policy and legislation that affects the Ossining area. Housing, transportation, and children’s programs were among the topics discussed.
In response to a question from Branch Vice President June Carver, Legislator Ulaj reported on the establishment of the County’s Office of Housing Counsel charged with providing financially eligible tenants access to resources and legal representation in eviction and related proceedings. The agency was launched last August; it functions as a clearinghouse to connect residents with contracted legal service providers. Ulaj shared on-line details about the program on the Zoom chat. Inquiries may be emailed to OHC@westchestercountyny.gov
Ulaj reported on efforts to expand the availability of programing created by the Westchester Children’s Museum, located in Rye. In order to reach more families in northern Westchester, the Museum has scheduled fifty free pop-up events throughout the region. The next “River North” event, a space exploration workshop for kids in kindergarten to second grade, will take place at the Ossining Library on Thursday, December 4 from 4:00 to 5:00 PM. Capacity is limited: Register HERE or contact the Ossining Library at 914-941-2416.

Legislator Ulaj spoke about her commitment to making public transportation a more effective alternative for residents in their daily lives. She has proposed expanding micro-transit programs that connect neighborhoods to commercial areas and other mass transit.
NAACP Ossining Branch President Harry Campbell thanked Ulaj for meeting with the group. The NAACP Ossining Branch meets by Zoom on the third Thursday of the month.
