Pace Men's Swimming Brings Home Relay Title

Setters end Northeast-10 Conference Championships on a high note in Connecticut.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. —  The Setters wrapped up the Northeast-10 Conference Championships on a high note as they took home the 100-yard freestyle relay title, while posting several top performances on the final day. Southern Connecticut won the NE-10 Championships with 801 points, while Pace came in fifth place with 417 points.

In the final race of the championships, the Setters went out with a bang as the quartet of Michael Fridman (Jerusalem, Israel/Zionist Village), Matt McCann (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury), Kevin Dickson (Coldingham, Scotland/Wallace) and Dogus Akay (Izmir, Turkey/Isikkent) nearly set the championships record in the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 3:08.66.

Earlier in the day, drama was high in the 100-yard freestyle as Dickson and Fridman tied for second place with a time of 47.19. Akay took home first place in the 200-yard backstroke, hitting the NCAA "B" cut time and just missing setting a championships record by 2/100 of a second.

Derek Slayton (Huntington Beach, CA/Marina/Cypress College) took fifth place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:10.27.

The Setters are back in action for the Metropolitan Championships that will run from February 14-16.
