Pleasantville Pet Store Turns 20
The store's resident Scottish Terrier, Cooper, also celebrated his 10th birthday in style.
Barbara Clemmens walked into Aardvark Pet Supplies 10 years ago as a banking professional and walked out an employee of the Washington Avenue store.
Clemmens said she was venting to then store owner Rachel Gumina about her career.
Gumina recalled, "I told her, 'You are hired' on the spot."
That decision was "the smartest thing I ever did," she added.
Clemmens later became the full-time owner of the shop.
"We became the customers," Gumina joked.
Both store owners were at Aardvark Tuesday to celebrate the store's 20th anniversary—a milestone Clemmens said she discovered accidentally when searching through some old paperwork.
She decided to take advantage of the opportunity and also celebrate her Scottish Terrier Cooper's birthday at the store.
The day included an open house with treats for canines and their humans alike.
