Pleasantville Superintendent: 'Student Safety is Paramount'

Pleasantville UFSD Superintendent Mary Fox-Alter addresses the fatal shooting in Newtown, CT.

An update from Mary Fox-Alter, 2:15 p.m.:

In light of the recent event is CT, the District has decided to postpone the HS Snowflake Ball and the 7th/8th grade Canteen. This is a time of reflection and being close to your families. Children will need reassurance that they are safe at school and home. While it is important to answer children's questions, too much detail can be frightening to young children. Again, please do not hesitate to call. The District's counseling department is always available to answer any question that you might have.  MFA

I'm sure by now your are aware of the horrific events that have occurred in Newtown, CT, at the Sandy Hook Elementary School. This tragic act of violence against harmless young children and their teachers is unfathomable. Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. Here at the Pleasantville School District, student safety is paramount. Our district's security plan includes a Crisis Response Team. These teams have been assembled and are actively engaged in assuring the safety of the children in each building. In Pleasantville, we are fortunate to have an excellent relationship with our local police. They are present on all three campuses, and Chief Love and Detective Wollman are present at the Bedford Road School. I know that some of our children will be frightened and upset by this recent event. Our counseling staff is available to provide support. Please do not hesitate to call your child's school, should you have any questions.
