Pleasantville's New Ban On Fuel-Powered Leaf Blowers Goes Into Effect

This will be the first year for the seasonal regulation.

PLEASANTVILLE, NY — Pleasantville's new rule banning the use of fuel-powered leaf blowers in the summer goes into effect May 15.

It runs through Sept. 30.

The law was passed in 2022. It does not apply to electric and battery-operated leaf blowers.

There is an exception: The use of fuel-powered motorized leaf blowers may be permitted from May 15 through Sept. 30 for up to seven days following significant storm events, or other emergency circumstances, as determined by the Superintendent of Public Works.

And, of course, their use is permitted between Oct. 1 and May 14 each year.

Pleasantville's new law is less strict than Mamaroneck, which last year banned the operation of leaf blowers in the village May 15 - Sept. 30 including all leaf blowers — gas, electric and vacuum.

While they're at it, the trustees remind residents that the village enforces its quiet hours on all motorized outdoor equipment:

  • Before 8 a.m. and after 7 p.m. on weekdays
  • Before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m. on weekends
  • Before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m. on Federal Holidays

In addition, Westchester County law requires that landscaping contractors be registered with the county and that leaf blowers meet county emissions regulations. More information about Westchester County's Leaf Blower Emissions Law can be found here.
