Police: Briarcliff Seniors Scuffle Over Menorah

A pre-Christmas dispute has carried over into January, according to Briarcliff Manor Police.

On Saturday, Dec. 22, police received a 911 call from a North State Road resident who said she was engaged in a verbal dispute with a fellow resident.

The woman, 79, told an officer who responded to the address that she wanted to put away the building's menorah "in respect for her faith."

Other residents, the woman alleged, wanted to keep the menorah out.

Police advised all parties involved to notify building management of the dispute.

The following day, at 4:31 p.m., the same woman called police again and said she was suffering from back pain after another resident struck her.

The caller told police she had attempted to move the menorah and another woman took the menorah from her before hitting her.

Police advised the woman the steps needed to obtain an order of protection through the village.

Then, on Thursday, Jan. 3, a resident of the same building contacted police and said the woman who had complained earlier had threatened her while she was "on mail duty."

The initial complainant, according to the caller, "pointed her finger and said, 'I'm not done with you.'"

Police said the incident may have been related to the menorah-related confrontation.
