Post-Sandy Con Ed Work Continues in Briarcliff Manor

Con Edison is stepping up its presence in Briarcliff Manor following Hurricane Sandy and before the winter cold sets in, according to Village Manager Philip Zegarelli.

In an update to the community today, Zegarelli stated, "Hurricane Sandy obviously destroyed whole areas of their service grid and Con Ed’s initial response was to restore power as soon as practical."

Previously, he continued, the utility company had been focusing on "heavy-duty" repairs, including the replacement of primary lines throughout the village.

"This was being done before the heavy onset of winter and weather conditions that would make such work harder and problematic," Zegarelli said.

After Sandy, the village manager said he has been meeting with Con Edison representatives to go over "the major overhaul and replacement of aged services."

"This is now being done on a stepped up basis this week and into the holiday season until our service feeder lines and residential connections are completed," he added.

As of today, Con Edison has been working in the following areas: Orchard, Iroquois, Croton, Stone and Old Briarcliff Road.

"Another cluster is Tappan Terrace, Hungerford, Schrade and Fuller Roads," he said. "Lesser impacts may occur as Morningside, Pocantico Roads and Gordon, Barns and Maurice Avenues have replacement work completed."

Area residents may continue to see temporary outages while this work is underway.
