Frost Or Freeze: Temps Will Plummet Friday In The Hudson Valley

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — It may still feel like summer on Wednesday, but after all, it's the autumnal equinox; temperatures will be 20 degrees lower on Friday and the National Weather Service has issued a hazardous outlook for frost and freeze conditions Friday night over higher terrain above 1500 feet elevation and in the Upper Hudson Valley.

AccuWeather may call it "cool" but we call that downright frigid.

So it's just as well that Hurricane Fiona's effects will move past our part of the East Coast before the weekend.

"Waves stirred up by Fiona will propagate outward for hundreds of miles in the form of large swells that can bring dangerous surf conditions to much of the Eastern Seaboard of the United States through this week," said Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist.

Still, Sunday will be sunny and 75 in case you want to go to the beach.

Here's the 5-day forecast based on New City from the National Weather Service:

• Wednesday -Sunny, with a high near 81. Light and variable wind.
• Tonight - A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after 5am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 65. Southwest wind around 6 mph.
• Thursday - Showers and thunderstorms before 2pm, then a chance of showers. High near 71. Southwest wind 6 to 9 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
• Thursday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 47. Northwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.
• Friday - Sunny, with a high near 62. Northwest wind 11 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph.
• Friday Night - Clear, with a low around 46.
• Saturday - Sunny, with a high near 69.
• Saturday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 50.
• Sunday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 75.
• Sunday Night - A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 58.
