Recyclable Recycling Bins on Tap in Pleasantville

The effort was coordinated through non-profit PleasantvilleRecycles and the village's DPW.

By the end of the month, Pleasantville residents will have new, larger recycling bins.

"So these are 18 gallon recycling bins which are the next size up from the ones that some of you may have that I think still say ‘The Reporter Dispatch’ on them, which is an indication of how old they are,'" Mayor Peter Scherer said at the January 14 Board of Trustees meeting. "The village has not distributed new recycling bins for a very, very long time."

The new bins, which themselves are recyclable, came about through a grant coordinated by the village non-profit organization PleasantvilleRecycles and Kathy Tucciarone of the Department of Public Works, Scherer said.

The new green bins are labeled with the PleasantvilleRecycles website.

Village Administrator Patricia Dwyer said she is not yet sure how the bins will be distributed.

"We expect these to go out at the end of the month," she said, adding the village is exploring routes for distribution and also waiting on flyers that will accompany the bins.

"We're working with the recycling committee on flyers that will be distributed with those bins so people have a sense of what other things we have available," Dwyer noted.

"For those of you who wonder if government ever does anything," joked Scherer, "here is our proudest moment."
