Sleepy Hollow's Theresa Gorski, 'Champion of Children'

Gorski, mother of two girls, worked for the Bronx Legal Aid Society in the Juvenile Rights division and will be mourned by many.

The quaint house at 127 New Broadway in Sleepy Hollow's Webber Park neighborhood still has ornaments dangling from a tree, red ribbons festoning the porch, and yellow police tape blocking the entrance.

On the shrubs Thursday morning someone has placed a bunch of yellow roses.

The news came Wednesday afternoon that Theresa Gorski, mother of two girls, has been taken off life support following Saturday's alleged strangulation by her husband, 49-year-old Christopher Howson.

The Webber Park neighborhood is reeling from its string of bad news this week, from the sudden death of Catherine Kadnar and the accident befalling firefighter Richie Green to this.

"I pray," one elderly New Broadway neighbor and grandmother to seven kept repeating. "It's incredible. The poor children."

Today, Gorski's office at the Bronx Legal Aid Society said they are preparing a statement about her contributions to the juvenile rights division and about her generally as a person.

Jessica Brenes, who knew Gorski professionally, commented on Patch, "she was a Champion of Children. I pray she is resting in peace and that her children are well cared for and loved."

A former neighbor, Eileen Wiseman, wrote, "I lived across the street from Theresa and her family for eight years. She was so very proud of her two beautiful girls, and doted on them both. She was a gentle, kind, lovely person. Words cannot describe the sadness."

The District Attorney's office said that Howson was "still on" for a Monday appearance at Sleepy Hollow's Village Court and that "an upgrade in charges was still pending." He is currently facing charges of attempted murder and strangulation and is being held without bail at Westchester County Jail.
