GPS, Cameras Coming for Comsewogue School Bus Service

New features coming as Comsewogue gets a new school bus provider.

Comsewogue school officials said Monday that along with a new bus provider coming this year, students will board large buses equipped with GPS and cameras.

The extra features come with a contract that was formally transferred from Amboy Bus Co. to Suffolk Transportation Corp. by a school board vote of 4-0 at Monday's meeting.

Though the terms of that contract were not immediately available, school officials said the district will pay the same rate for the buses this coming year as it did last year.

According to a recent report in the Port Times Record, Amboy sold its contracts to Suffolk Transportation – which already provides mini-bus service to the district – because of losses the company suffered in superstorm Sandy last year.
