Guide to Tuesday's Local School Budget and Village Elections
What you need to know for the school budget votes and village elections set for Tuesday June 19.

On Tuesday, locals will once again head out to the polls to vote on revised budgets for Comsewogue and Mount Sinai school districts. The village of Port Jefferson will also be holding its annual elections for open board seats, although the contest is, well, no contest.

Comsewogue School District

The Comsewogue School Board has adopted a $78.3 million budget for a revote on Tuesday. The new budget will come in at the New York State tax cap, requiring a simple majority to pass.
In May, to garner the required 60 percent supermajority vote to institute a tax cap-piercing budget that sought to raise the tax levy by 4.5 percent. The newly adopted budget comes with , within state law according to Assistant Superintendent of Business Susan M. Casali.

Mount Sinai School District

Where: Mount Sinai Elementary School
When: Tuesday, June 19 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Mount Sinai School District is putting up a new budget for a vote on June 19 after last month.
The $54.6 million budget is a decrease of .53 percent over last year’s operating budget, according to a summary released by the school and posted onto its website. The increase in the tax levy in the proposed budget is 2.13 percent. The cost to homeowners is $233.43 per $100 of assessed valuation or $13.40 more per month on average.
Port Jefferson Village Election
What: Vote for village board members
Where: (note this is a change in location from previous years)
When: Tuesday, June 19 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
On Tuesday, June 19, residents of Port Jefferson can go out to vote in village elections. The only items on the ballot are two open trustee seats and both have gone uncontested.
Trustee Lee Rosner and Trustee Bruce D'Abramo seats are both open this year. No one else has submitted to get on the ballot except Rosner and D'Abramo, according to Village Clerk Robert Juliano.
