Incident Report: Mt. Sinai Resident Falls Victim to Phone Scam
The following incidents were reported to Suffolk County police between March 24 and March 29.

A Mt. Sinai resident has fallen victim to the phone scam about which Suffolk police recently warned residents. According to a police report, an unknown male called the victim at approximately 11 a.m. on March 27 claiming to threaten a family member with harm if the victim did not immediately wire money. The victim, a woman, complied with the request by sending an undisclosed amount of money at King Kullen.
Residents also reported a handful of other phone scams:
- On March 26, a resident of Peachtree Lane in Mt. Sinai reported at 8:45 p.m. that a male caller with an accent threatened to harm family members, who turned out to be safe.
- Another resident of Peachtree Lane in Mt. Sinai reported at 2:55 p.m. on March 28 that a caller asked for money to help family members whom the caller said had been in a bad accident. The family members turned out to be safe.
- A resident of Savanna Circle in Mt. Sinai reported a similar phone scam experience on March 27 at 11 a.m.
CRIMINAL MISCHIEF

- Two residents of Oleeta Road in Mt. Sinai reported mailboxes had been damaged by a juvenile on March 23 at 11 p.m. and March 24 at 1 a.m. Neither resident pressed charges, saying restitution had been made.
GRAND LARCENY
- A resident of Ellen Drive in Port Jefferson reported that someone stole a backpack containing a laptop, iPod and passport from an unlocked 2010 Toyota sometime between March 27 and March 29. The complainant could not specify whether the theft happened at home or at the office.
PETTY LARCENY

- Suffolk police responded to a report of a shoplifter at Pathmark in Port Jefferson Station on March 29 at 3:25 p.m. The shoplifter stole a 30-pack of Budweiser beer along with a package of pepperoni.
AGGRAVATED HARASSMENT
- An employee of Lindy's Taxi in Mt. Sinai reported March 27 at 9 p.m. that unknown people made several calls to the taxi company, giving a bogus address and using threatening language.
