In case you're looking for a local way to give back to the community this week, here's one option: According to a recent story published by The Village Times Herald, the Three Village Brookhaven Township Kiwanis Club is holding a school supplies drive in the areas of Three Village and Port Jefferson Station.
The organization is looking for the following items in new condition: composition and spiral notebooks, binders and loose-leaf paper, pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, folders, magic markers, glue, child safety scissors, backpacks, lunch boxes, and other typical back-to-school items.
The deadline to drop off donations is Sept. 6. There are multiple local drop-off spots for school supplies donations:
