A resolution to install five Village Lanterns with security cameras is on tonight's Port Jefferson Village Board meeting.
Through the Suffolk County Downtown Revitalization Program, the Village of Port Jefferson hopes to install five lanterns that have security cameras in Port Jefferson. The lanters would be installed on Village-owned parcels identified as “hot spots” in need of enhanced security and lighting for visitors. The five hot spots are:
1. Behind Village Hall/ Near Children’s Park and Tennis Courts
2. Main Street adjacent to alley connecting to rear parking lot
3. Intersection of Main Street and West Broadway
4. E. Main St. adjacent to alley connecting Trader’s Cove shopping area parking to E. Main St.
5. Along newly constructed pedestrian walkway in ‘Baker’s Alley’ connecting Trader’s Cove rear parking lot to W. Broadway and E. Main Street.
The Village is applying for $23,500 under the program. The cost of each lantern is $4,700 and Village will leverage $13,700 in funding for installation, CPU and Wi-Fi connectivity. The total project cost is $37,200.
Monday's meeting begins at 7 p.m. at village hall.
