Pedestrian Struck, Killed In Suffolk Crash: Police

He was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Suffolk police said.

CORAM, NY — A pedestrian was struck and killed in Coram Wednesday night, Suffolk police said.

Leo Hietala was crossing County Road 83 at Hawkins Path at around 7 p.m., when he was struck by a northbound 2013 Dodge Ram, driven by a 28-year-old Holbrook man, according to police.

Hietala, 50, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said, adding that the Holbrook man was not injured.

The Dodge was impounded for a safety check, police said.
