  1. Port Jefferson School District mourns the loss of student Aida Ramonez. On Saturday, Jan. 15, family and friends gathered outside the First Presbyterian Church on Main Street, for a prayer vigil to remember her and celebrate her life. Aida passed away due to medical complications and will be surely missed by our community. (Port Jefferson School District)

  3. Port Jefferson area unemployment rate improves. "The Suffolk County unemployment rate was 3.5 percent in November, down from 4 percent in October. That reflected some improvement from November 2020, when the unemployment rate stood at 5.7 percent. According to the last numbers The newest available local unemployment figures are for November; that rate improved since October in the Port Jefferson area and continues to be lower than it was after the pandemic first struck."   4. A seven-year-old girl was found unresponsive in the pool at the Marriot Melville. Katlyn Pineda was found on Thursday, Jan. 13, by a family member who called the police. She was transported to Plainview Hospital and then transferred to Cohen Children's Medical Center in Queens. (Rutherford Daily Voice)
