  2. The number of Port Jefferson visitors who are becoming residents of the village has been increasing. According to Margot Garant, the Village mayor for 13 years, one of the reasons that Port Jeff is welcoming more residents is the popular events the village offers throughout the year like the annual Dickens Festival and the Dragon Boat Race Festival. Nonprofit Paws of War, located in Nesconset, is helping to rescue "Musket," a therapy dog overseas back to the U.S. Musket is a loving dog rescued overseas and the first dog to be part of an innovative program to help United States troops stationed. The program uses rescued dogs as therapy dogs to help soldiers to cope with emotional issues. Now, Musket's work is done, and the nonprofit aims to bring him to the U.S. so he can continue his work as a therapy dog. (Patch)
